For Teachers.

Dear Educators,

It is with great excitement that we share with you this information on the Minnesota Marine Art Museum! The Museum will house three significant and captivating art collections. We want you to know that the staff and board of the Museum are committed to making the Museum, and its collections, a rich educational resource for the community.

Through this website, we hope to spark your imagination for future collaborations between you, your class, and the Museum. It will be our goal to serve educators and students in such a way as to support existing curriculum and assist educators in meeting State Standards whenever possible.

The Museum is not just for art classes. We encourage teachers to work with us to design tours that connect with any subject area. In addition, all age groups are invited to participate -- from preschool through University level.

In an attempt to provide the best quality learning experiences as possible, the Museum’s touring program will begin on a small scale in fall 2006 and increase in volume in the months and years to come. A small number of classes will be invited to participate as we get the school program up and running. After the foundation is laid, we will be working with area educators on a much larger scale and sharing with you what we have learned in our initial trial tours.

We will be developing a contact list of educators who would like regular updates on exhibitions and the progress of the tour program. If you are interested, please contact Heather MacGaw Curator of Education at

hmacgaw@minnesotamarineart.org or 507-474-6626 ext 17.

As the Museum begins is maiden voyage, there will be remarkable opportunities, excitement and wonder. We hope you and your class will consider joining us on this great adventure!

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum staff is sincerely committed to working with teachers in order to develop the tours to meet curriculum needs, in all subject areas, not just those that pertain to art. We would like your input!
