Anchors aweigh! It’s time to set sail and explore the deep “see” galleries full of artworks. Explore some of your favorite artworks in a fresh way as Museum staff and volunteers read family-friendly stories in front of original artworks. All ages welcome but stories and projects are geared to children ages 3-8.  These mornings are free as part of the Museum’s education and outreach programming.

Saturday, June 27- 10-11 a.m. - Make a Splash!
Are you ready to get wet?  We’ll be diving into books all about water while looking at some artworks that have water in them too.  At the MMAM, there are many pieces of art which relate to water.  Swim on over for a morning of fun!

Saturday, July 25- 10-11 a.m. - Boats on the Mississippi
The museum rests on the banks of the Mississippi River.  On this morning (if we’re lucky) we’ll see different types of boats as they float pass the Museum.  We’ll also enjoy ‘The Art of the Canoe’ exhibit and learn more about American Indian folklore.

Saturday, August 29- 10-11 a.m. - Colors, Colors and More Colors
Join us as we look at all the beautiful colors in artwork at the MMAM.  Through stories, we will look at how color is a very important part of art.  We will look at how different artists use colors and conclude with a fun color activity.

The Floating Boathouses on the Upper Mississippi River”
Lecture by Martha Greene Phillips
Wednesday, July 22 at 6 p.m.

“Our boathouses are a regional icon; they are uniquely Midwestern and middle-class  America. There is nothing like them elsewhere.”-Martha Greene Phillips

As a newcomer to Mississippi River culture, Martha Greene Phillips had many questions about the boathouses in the Upper Mississippi River region.  After hours upon hours of research, she decided to put together a book with some of the answers she found.  Phillips will discuss all of the people, places, and facts that shaped her book.  She will also be available immediately following her lecture to sign her book, which will be available for purchase in the Museum’s gift store.
