Family Fun

Top 10 Things to do at the MMAM with your kids!

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a great place to visit with your family. Even our smallest visitors can find ways to learn and enjoy the Museum. Try one of these activities next time you come with the little ones in your life.

10. Go on a fishing expedition and count the number of fishing poles you can find in the artworks! (For the expert, try to count all of the boats!)

9. Ask at the front desk for some paper, a board and a pencil and chose an artwork to sketch. Did you know that lots of famous artists practiced drawing in Museums?

8. Make a pillow pile in the family reading area and grab your favorite book to read!

7. Take a walk through our gardens and then have a picnic lunch on our river walk. Make sure you look for barge traffic and exciting river wildlife. In the winter keep an eye out for animal tracks in the snow.

6. Make a word bank for a piece of art. List all the words you can think of that you associate with that piece. How many words can you list?

5. Find a discovery dock in one of the galleries to learn more about the exhibition.

4. Go to the blue gallery and think of your favorite movie. Find a painting that could illustrate that movie.  For example, "The Perfect Storm," "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," or "Cold Mountain."

3. Take turns choosing a favorite piece of art and telling each other why you chose that piece as your favorite. Can you find a piece that you don’t like?

2. Try to find one piece of artwork that has at least one color from the outfit you are wearing. Can you find one piece for every color you are wearing?

1. Pick up a Bingo Overboard card at the Bingo Discovery Dock in the Atrium and play for a prize!
