About

Leo Smith III, Marilyn Smith

Leo and Marilyn

Known for their compelling Folk Art, Sculpture in Wood and Bronze Fine Art, every piece created by Leo and painted by Marilyn is evidence of the dedication to preserving what is seen around them and capturing it for the enjoyment of others.

Life on the Mississippi River, past and present, local people, and the flora & fauna provide inspiration for Smith´s life-like folk figures. After Leo creates a work in wood, Marilyn works her magic upon the simple form and takes the work to a high level of polychromed brilliance.

Smith’s style has a classical American look that builds upon earlier folk tradition with an absolute devotion to excellence and fine detail. Their innovative work has been exhibited in museums, galleries and fine shops and has brought wide acclaim throughout the US.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum proudly holds a collection of 400+ Smith sculptures which can be seen on a rotating basis in the Smith Gallery at the museum.  All new Leo Smith FOLK ART Limited Edition Reproductions are available exclusively through the museum.
